Modern cars are equipped with many safety enhancing elements. Starting from electronic driver-assistance solutions (ABS, traction control, braking assistant, electronic brakeforce distribution and electronic stability control) followed by a set of airbags and finishing with active systems warning against danger on the road. The purpose of such systems is to avoid a collision or minimize its consequences. In order to increase the safety of their clients, some importers offer the addition of an intelligent rescue system called ISR supplied by Keratronik. The system features automatic accident and collision notification and serves as an additional anti-theft device.
The whole ISR system relies on a black box type device and is permanently installed in the vehicle in a place inaccessible to standard users. The device detects accidents using an array of sensors plus a GPS receiver and a GSM modem for sending accident alerts to a monitoring centre where a team of specialists supervise the safety of the users 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The driver has access to a console (pictured below). The system also includes a microphone and a speaker installed in the cabin of the vehicle. The set is actually an independent speakerphone which allows contact with the staff of the monitoring centre. The integration with the electrical system of the car requires only connecting the device to a power source.

  How does ISR work?

The system actively analyses the location of the vehicle, its speed, direction and forces acting on it. These parameters, due to the anonymity of the user are not sent to the monitoring centre and they are not recorded by the system. When the accident is detected, meaning that the system records strong impact, change of vertical and/or horizontal axis of the car (side flip or overturn), a signal is automatically sent to the monitoring centre. The message includes data about the vehicle, the owner and the exact location of the accident. The dispatcher receiving the notification always tries to establish a voice call connection with the car in order to confirm the event and its possible consequences. If necessary, or when voice contact with the driver is not established, the nearest rescue services are sent to the accident site. This procedure significantly shortens the response time and allows for precise location of the accident. The extensive experience of the monitoring centre staff in coordinating rescue operations is also of great importance to the functionality of the system.

The centre operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The statistics confirm that the right timing is of paramount importance to the protection of life and health of accident victims. Small collisions and fender-benders do not initiate the notification procedure. In such cases the driver has an option to use the assistance function of the device or manually call the rescue services.

Cutting-edge technology combined with the competence of the monitoring centre staff makes ISR a unique solution on the Polish market. Daily service for road incidents, coordination of rescue operations and assistance significantly improve the safety of users.

Summary: ISR guarantees safety and helps in everyday use of a car. The system is available as a standard feature in cars sold in Poland by Subaru and as an extra feature in VW Group cars (called SatAssist) and KIA cars.
